The Story of Take Me Back: Travel, Solidarity, and a Special Encounter
In November 2015, Andrea and Erika embarked on a trip to Sri Lanka that changed their lives. During their stay, they met a local family that transformed their perspective on solidarity and international aid.
A Life-Changing Encounter
The family—consisting of a father who repaired bicycles, a mother, and four children—welcomed Andrea and Erika into their modest home, treating them like special guests. This experience of human and cultural exchange left a lasting impression on the two travelers.
The Simple Yet Powerful Request
As she was leaving, Erika’s mother asked her to send her the photos she had taken—a simple gesture that highlighted her desire to maintain a human connection rather than a material one. This request inspired Andrea and Erika to think about how they could help maintain such emotional bonds across great distances.
Take Me Back is born
With the help of their friend Antonio, they managed to deliver the promised photos. The emotion and gratitude they received in return inspired them to create “Take Me Back,” a platform designed to help others do the same through volunteer couriers.
