Dewathura Primary School – Sri Lanka

(Mission complete)

The Mission

Hi everyone,

My name is Letizia, and this August I’ll have the chance to visit beautiful Sri Lanka for the first time. During my stay, thanks to Take Me Back, I’ll meet Anthea, a Take Me Back volunteer courier who has been working with the organization for years to support schools in the most remote villages.

Together we will visit the Dewatura Kanitu Viduhala School, located in a rural village in the Namunukula mountain range, in the interior of Sri Lanka (here is the exact location: link). The nearest town, Ella, is over two hours away by car, and the children here have access only to essentials such as food and clothing.

The school has 48 students who, thanks to our help, will receive the school supplies they need to attend school.

What do we need? Backpacks, notebooks, erasers, pencils, pens—and it would be wonderful if we could raise enough funds to buy some shoes for school as well (since some children don’t have any).

Our goal? To raise enough money to buy school supplies for the year, and if we exceed that goal, to help purchase materials for music and sports classes, as well as shoes.

How can you help us? Every donation, no matter how small or large, makes a huge difference! Just think: with the cost of a Friday beer, we can buy about 15 notebooks. I’ll document every step of the project, and I promise we’ll give back far more in smiles than you’ve donated.

I can't wait to get started and bring this project to life with your support!
